As one of the most ancient arts, dancing is the crystallization of the development of human civilization, which is rooted in human beings working life in ancient time. Not only dose it bring to people with the most direct and perfect aesthetic emotion, but also implies profound connotation in the aspect of social ethic. Classical dancing is the traditional dance with significant meaning and unique style in every region, nation, and ethnic. It was gradually evolved by extracting, processing, and creating of successive artists. Chinese classical dance originated from the traditional dance, which is accumulated from Chinese history, by abstracting the typical dance conformation and absorbing the stylized performance and figures in opera, on the basis of the taste demand of time spirit. While, western classic dance mainly refers to ballet, which gestated in ancient Greek, and originated from Italy, France. During the development for more than 500 years, its own unique aesthetic characteristic has been gradually evolved, and become a paragon of beauty. This paper began by the research on origination and development of classical dancing and the analysis on ethical thoughts, characteristics, and principles of Chinese and western classical dance, then made a comparison between of Chinese and western classical dance on ethics. The paper consists of the following aspects.The first part outlined the Chinese and western classical dance, including the origin and connotation of classical dancing; representative works and aesthetic characteristics of Chinese and western classical dancing; the relationship between classical dancing and ethics.The second part made a research on the ethical thoughts of Chinese classical dancing, analyzing the value orientation of "harmony is the most precious", the value standard of "harmonious yet different", and the value ideal of "nature and man are in unit" The third part explored on the ethical thoughts of Western classical dancing, mainly containing the expansion of dance posture with human spirit of competition; love oriented marriage ethics, and the religions thought with "redeem for original sin"The forth part made a comparison between Chinese and western classical dance, including three part:introduced the ethical principles of Chinese and western classical dance, the similarities on moral value of Chinese and western classical dance, the differences on ethics between Chinese and western classical dance.
