Abstract/Summary:
Zeng Guofan, as a famous person in modern history, made contributions in politics, military affair, literature, education and so on. Although his poems and education volumes was wrote 200 years ago, they have been still valued by literature and education researchers, in which there are many advanced education thoughts and ideas, especially the idea of writing education, could be applied to the present Chinese education and bringing a new prospective to contemporary Chinese education.The paper generalizes and analyzes Zeng Guofan's ideas about writing education to explore their contemporary value and decode them in contemporary era, with the focus on a lot of first-hand materials, including his family messages, family injunctions, literary works, poems, letters and etc., added with other related articles. Firstly, the paper compares and analyzes the origin of his writing education ideas for illustrating the changes, and lists them comprehensively; secondly, sorts out and generalizes the raw materials including Zeng Guofan's Family Message, Zeng Guofan's Literary Works, Zeng Guofan's Poems, and books and articles commenting his ideas, and summarizes the essence of his writing ideas, the contents and methods of his writing education; thirdly, decodes his ideas in writing education in contemporary prospective combining the status quo of writing teaching, to illustrate the meaning of his ideas to present writing teaching.From the research, it could be found that Zeng's ideas in writing education could be said"collecting the essence from the past and also be creative". On the one hand, he inherited the characteristics of traditional Chinese education such as"content united with the mode"of Confucian school, the writing training of Big Eight celebrities in Tang and Song Dynasty, and the spirit-in-essay theory of Tongcheng school, and create his own features. For example, Zeng claimed that the content and mode should be both important; the essay should have a topic; writing training should be innovative and teacher should modify the student's essays well and frequently, the writing should imitate at first then create own style; the spirit should be emphasized, he thought the spirit is the primary factor for a good article, the content and the spirit should be integrated. On the other hand, Zeng have the unique views about the teaching content, teaching principle, and the relationship between reading and writing in writing education, which all set a good example for contemporary writing education. For instance, learning how to write should started from the accumulation and imitation, then making a topic, choosing the phrases, and building a spirit. The teacher could guide the student to accumulate the phrases, encourage them to imitate the good essays and write frequently. At the same time, the teacher should care about the student's interest to integrate the reading and writing, to make the reading help the writing, even could combine the calligraphy with the writing, so that the student's writing ability could be improved.
