Road Of Hope And Salvation Of The Modern Christ

William Faulkner (1897-1962)was one of the greatest writers in the 20th century .Since he wined the Nobel Prize for literature of 1949,he has gained higher comments . Now ,the scholars who study Faulkner are the most except those studying Shakespeare . Most of them focused their eyes on the racial conflict, narrative echniques and so on in the past. in recent years,more and more scholars noted the link between Faulkner's fiction and Biblical culture and had made a lot of important works.Since the culture difference between the eastern and western tradition and we are not familiar with the Christian Culture ,we are used to reading the western modern classics by a vision of eastern culture which resulte in many misreading ,So as to Faulkner,who used images and frame of the"Holy Bible"extensively in his works. Only in deeply investigating of the relationship between Christian Culture and Faulkner can we get a correct Interpretation on him.Thus, knowing well to the Holy Bible,becomes a key to understanding Faulkner's works.Grounded on the former researches,This thesis based on Northrop Frye's archetype theory of criticism and the link between Faulkner's fiction and Biblical culture. I try to study the archetype of Jesus,and try to deduce the special redemption mode of Faulkner, and explore Faulkner's humanitarian ideals based on Christian Culture.This thesis conducts the discussion on three layers.All are stated as follows:In layer one, it mainly expounds the link between American Literature and Biblical culture,and briesf on archetypal criticism,which establishes the theoretical basis for the analysis of the following content as a whole;In layer two, it makes a detailed interpretation on the archetype of Jesus in Faulkner's works,and try to deduce the special redemption mode : original sin– Passion– Heal– Resurredion.In layer three, it analyzes Faulkner's critic and hope on modem people , anyhow,he firmly believes that there is immortal spirit in human being.Finally,The paper comes to the conclusion that Faulkner was deeply impressed with Biblical culture ,but more than that,he makes use of the Bible resources in his own an unique way,in which embodies Faulkner's positive faith and aspirations on people's future.
