Objective:To investigate the effects of radioactive ray on transmission capability of nose mucocilia;to observe the morphology of the nasal and sinus mucosa cilia of patients with radiation nasosinusitis; To follow-up analyse of the CT imaging features of RNS, to preliminary discuss the pathogenesis and prognosis of RNS.Methods:1. Saccharin clearance time (SCT) for 7 phases in pre-radiotherapy and post-radiotherapy, respectively were detected in forty-six fitered patients with NPC.2. 12 cases were observed by scanning electron microscopy with the principle of the same side on the same sample including four stages (pre-radiotherapy and medium–term of radiotherapy,3 months after radiotherapy,18 months after radiotherapy).3. Seventy-four cases of nasopharyngeal cancer patients cured by radia for more than 18 months was summarized, paranasal sinus CT scan was completed for four stages and the imaing data was accessed by Lund-Mackay score.Results:1. Saccharin clearance time (SCT) of the phases in pre-radiotherapy and post-radiotherapy was significantly different.2. After radiotherapy ,the sinus and the nasal mucosa cilia of the patients was severely damaged, with cilia severe necrosis and shedding.3. CT scan images clearly show the conditions of the sinus cavity, sinus and nasal, and to determine the nature of the lesion, lesion extent and assess the prognosis. Conclusion:Radiotherapy is the major factor affecting transmission capability of nose cavity and sinus mucocilia ,while the gender and the nasal cavity side are the lessesr factor. necrosis and shedding of the the sinus and the nasal mucosa cilia caused by radiation was the major factor of NPC. CT can show the anatomy and variations of sinus as to follow-up observe objective change of radiation nasosinusitis. Therefore, the determination of the various stages of SCT of NPC patients can guide clinical to effectively protect nasal mucosa and reduce the occurrence of radioactive sinusitis. To minimize the nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses irradiated area and protect the nasal cavity, paranasal sinus mucosa of Nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients are the effective measures to avoid or reduce the occurrence of radioactive sinusitis. CT scan image data analysis for the emergence and development of radioactive sinusitis as well as the scope of lesions plays an important role on the prognosis.
