Objiective:To study the variation of the microsurgical anatomy anterior segment of basal vein via the pterional approach in order to protect it in operation and to offer morphology evidence for clinical neurosurgery operation. Methods:We Twenty(Forty hemispheres) formalin fixed adult cadaveric brains which had been perfused with red and blue latex were evaluated, simulting pterional approach.and opening the cranium and then observe, measure, study basal veins. Results:The variation of the anterior segment of basal vein is comparatively large. There are 4 basal veins which are absent of anterior segment.Thirty-six basal veins courser tightly sticking to fasciculus opticus.Twenty-five sides walk backward directly; seven sides flow into sphenoparietalsinus, peduncular vein and inferior ventricular vein consist of the middle segment and walk backward. The anterior and middle segments are discontinuous.Four basal veins flow into sphenoparietalsinus,.The anterior and middle segments are continuous. Conclusion:To be familiar with the variation of microsurgical anatomy of the anterior segment of basal vein, we can protect it better when we deal with saddle area especially the upper clivus and a basilar apex aneurysm and decrease hemorrhage and the possible postoperative complication...
