Modern pharmacological studies show that the forsythia and schizonepetae are qualified with broad-spectrum antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic effects and so on. The combination of two drugs, such as forsythia-Schizonepeta decoction, are often used to cure comedo, acne, skin ulcers and other illnesses in clinic. Forsythia and Schizonepeta are as the main prescription drugs, the effect, which are combined with two drugs, are much more anti-inflammatory than a single herb, however, despite its essential oil also has good anti-inflammatory effects, but because of large stimulating and being difficult to save, thus rarely put into use. Therefore, under the guidance of theory of traditional Chinese medicine, this paper is mainly a series of studies about the research of forsythia/volatile oil in. anti-inflammatory aspects.1. Used silica gel column chromatography separating volatile oil, which were extracted from Forsythia and schizonepetae respectively, according to their different polarity, separated the forsythia volatile oil into five sub-components, and schizonepetae volatile oil into four sub-components, detected the crude oil of volatile oil and the major components of each group after the separation by GC-MS analysis method.2. Studied the crude oil of volatile oil and after separation of that, the effect of different active components on xylene ear edema in mice and rat carrageenan paw swelling. The results showed that after the separation of volatile oil, the anti-inflammatory effect of each group was different, and in which the sepatator-5 of volatile oil of forsythia and the separator-3 volatile oil of schizonepetae showed that it contained certain degree of inflammatory effect, and also found that the crude oil of volatile oil of forsythia and schizonepetae had the strongest medical effect relatively, comparing with their efficacy of various components after separation.3. Researched the volatile oil (VOD), from which Forsythia and Schizonepeta were frying together; the mixture volatile oil (VOH), from which forsythia and Schizonepeta fried separately and mixed, and removed the inflammatory components in the volatile oil, combined the left components obtaining recombinant mixture volatile oil (VOZ). Studied the effects on xylene ear edema in mice and rats carrageenin paw swelling. Found that anti-inflammatory effects in order were:VOZ> VOD>VOH.4. Comprehensive analysis made on the results of all anti-inflammatory experiments, and also the GC-MS of volatile oil, concluded that the material foundation, of which the volatile oil of forsythia and Schizonepeta exerted on anti-inflammatory, was relevant to pinene (includingα-pinene andβ-pinene). In the process of decoction with Forsythia and Schizonepeta, the chemical composition between the drugs may occur interactions and changes, leading the increase of pinene content.5.As the Forsythia oil and Schizonepetae oil has irritation and pungent odor, the direct oral administration would be difficult for patients to accept, so after the separation and re-combination of essential oil, made into a new type preparation, that is essential oil nanoemulsion. This reduced the irritation of volatile oil, and is more convenient for clinical use. The irritation of essential oil which was made into nanoemulsion has greatly reduced, and as well as the toxicandside-effect. LD50 added from 6.4ml/kg to 15.9ml/kg. This show that droplet of nanoemulsion wrapped the volatile oil components, making its released slowly in the body, and reduced drug side effects.
