Primary hypothyroidism is one of the most common endocrine diseases, and its main clinical feature is low basal metabolic rate. As to the basic theory of traditional Chinese medicine, hypothyroidism belongs to the category of "consumptive disease". According to relative literature and clinical experience, professor Yu Shijia proposed that the main mechanism of Primary hypothyroidism was deficiency of yang of kidney, and there were many changes in the development of the disease. According to the professor Yu s clinical experience, primary hypothyroidism should be classified into 4 types: deficiency of yang of kidney, yang deficiency of the spleen and kidney, deficiency of heart-kidney yang and deficiency of yin and yang. The Chinese medicine and Western medicine were only the method of treatment of diseases. In the opinion of professor Yu, primary hypothyroidism should be treated by method of combination of proper herb prescription and small dose of thyroxin. In clinical practice, the satisfied curative effect can usually be obtained with the combination of Chinese and Western medicine treatment.
