Objective To inwestigate the expressions and significances of MMP-1,MMP-2 and uPA in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma.Methods The expressions of MMP-1,MMP-2 and uPA in 50 cascs of laryngeal squanlous cell carcinoma and normal laryngeal mucosa adjacent to carcinoma were detectcd by immunohistochemistry.Results The expression of MMP-1,MMP-2 and uPA in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma was significantly higher than that in normal laryngeal mucosa adjacent to carcinoma(P<0.01).The expression of MMP-1,MMP-2 and uPA in high,moderate and low grade carcinoma was significantly higher than that in normal laryngeal mucosa adjacent to carcinoma(P<0.01),the expressions of MMP-1,MMP-2 and uPA in high, moderate and low grade carcinoma were not significantly different(P>0.05).The expression of MMP-1 in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma was positively correlated with clinical stage and lymph node status(r=0.360,0.381) and not with T stage and and histological grade.The expressions of MMP-2 and uPA in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma were positively correlated with lymph node status(r=0.296,0.381) and not with T stage,histological grade and clinical stage.There was correlation between the expression of MMP-2 and uPA(P<0.01).Conclusions The expressions of MMP-1,MMP-2 and uPA in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma might be closely related with the invasion and lymph metastasis.The detection of MMP-1,MMP-2 and uPA expressions could be helpful to predict the regional lymph node metastasis and determine the neck dissection in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma.
