Objective: To study the effect of vitamin K on quality of bone in model rats with osteoprosis, and to discuss the machanism of it.Methods: Three serials of animals were used in this experiment . In each serial, eighteen female SD rats were divided into three groups. Rats of Group A were ovariectimized with Vitamin K2(30mg Pkg Pday)was injection subcutanously, Group B were ovariectomized, and Group C underwent sham 2ovariectomy. Osteoprosis model was established by means of ovariectomy.Bone mineral density(BMD) was measured with dual energy X-ray densitometry.Osseous tissue structure of upper tibia was observed by ono-decalcified section and toluidine blue staining, and morphometry was carried out.Compressive sthength limit and elastic modulus of first lumbar vertebrae, and bent load of femur were measured by elastometer. Results:Vitamin K can significantly increase BMD,area of trabecula and thickness of bone contex/diameter of marrow cavity ratio of model rats,to elevate the compressive sthength limit of vertebrae and bent load of femur. Conclusion:Vitamin K could increase BMD of osteoprosis model rats, and also could effectively improve the structure of osseous tissue, biomechanical property of bone and enchance the overall quality of bone.
