The terpenes in the barks of Pinus Massoniana Lamb were researched .The main three parts in this paper were as followings: First, the powder of the barks of Pinus Massoniana Lamb was extracted by ethanol and then the thickened solution was extracted with cyclohexane, so its extraction was got. AT last, the essential oil was obtained from the extraction by steam distillation and then be separated and analyzed by GC/MS. And the optimum extraction process conditions of extracting essential oil were observed. Second, the optimum extraction process condition of extracting terpene from the bark ofPinus Massoniana Lamb was attained by single factor experiments and orthogonal tests. The last, the antibiotic activity of the volatile ingredients and the terpene from the barks was investigated by the test of restraining the bacilli.Through the top researches, the following achievements were gained:Separated by capillary gas chromatography, 72 components were obtained by GC/MS. Among them,29 compounds were identified, their relative contents of constituents account to 73.91% of the total bark area. The main compounds were Heptane (6.36%) , Cyclohexane, methyl-(3.64%),(+)-Longifolen (22.17%),Caryophyllene (2.25%),n-Hexadecanoic acid (3.35%),9-Octadecenoic acid (8.11%),9-Octadecenoic acid, ethyl ester (4.49%), Camphor(3.32%) . And the optimum extraction process conditions of extracting essential oil were observed : the soak time was 10 hours ,the ration of the feed liquid was 1 to 10, and the apt polarity solvent was Cyclohexane. The optimum extraction process conditions of extracting terpene were observed: the soak time was 10 days, the ratio of the feed liquid was 1 to 10, and the apt polarity solvent was Cyclohexane. By GC-MS, the final extractions were analysed ,The main were cz-Terpieol and Longifolen; another were (-)-Spathuleno, Longiborneol 8.beta.H- Cedran -8-ol Juniper camphor; all are terpene ,and the total relative contents of constituents account to 63.75%.The volatile oil, which was obtained from the barks of PinusMassoniana Lamb, had inhibitory effect to bacillus pyocyaneus, bacillus subtilis, gold staphylococci and colibacillus, especially to the Bacillus subtilis, so it had the broad spectrum antibacterial action. The terpene from the barks also had inhibitory effect to the bacillus subtilis, gold staphylococci, colibacillus, and the pyocyaneus. The above test solutions all had no inhibitory effect to the fungus.
