The bryophyte is a specil types of botany and more than 23000 species are known in the world. Many compounds with novel skeletons or significant bioactivities have been obtained from mosses and liverworts, some of which are nice lead compounds in new drug research. Studies of the bryophyte indicate that the bryophyte is one of the most important treature of the biologically active compounds. In this paper, we had done some chemical research on Hypnum plumaeforme wil s and fourteen compounds had been isolated. On the basis of their chemical and phy sical properties and IR, MS,NMR spectral analysis, nine compounds had been identifie d. The structures were deduced to be as following: diploptene( I), octacosanoic acid methyl ester (II), octacosanoic acid octadecanyl ester(III), octacosanoic acid pentyl est er (IV), tetratriacontanol (Ⅴ), octacosanol(Ⅵ),β-sitosterol(Ⅶ), sigmasterol(Ⅷ), daucost erol(Ⅸ).All of these compounds were isolated from this species for the first time. The volatile oil is one of the most important component of Chinese traditional medicine. The volatile of Plagiochila chinensis Steph obtained by hydiodistillation hasbeen investigated qualitatively and quanitively by GC-MS and 42 compounds compo sed of about 53.714% of the total essential oil were identified. The main constituentsare monoterpenoids and sesquiterpenoids. This is the reason of the strong redolence of Plagiochila chinensis Steph.
