The theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) Zangxiang is the core of TCM theory system.. It is the foundation of understanding, diagnosing and treating disease. The action of five zang-organs in TCM include both form function and modulating function. Five zang-organs can not only modulate the body itself,but also modulate its correspondence with the nature. This modulating function is the essential characteristic of Zangxiang theory in TCM., but now there are not so much researches and achievements about this spatio-temporal characteristic of Zangxiang theory, so we put up the research in this field, use the techniques of modern science of life to study the modulating mechanism of the body corresponding with nature in different time, in order to seek after a new feasible way to study on the essence of ZangXiang theory in TCM.1. ObjectiveOn the basis of"kidney corresponds with winter", combining with some achievements of modern science of life such as Pineal gland and Melatonin, we study on the relationship between the modulating mechanism of"kidney corresponds with winter"and nervous- endocrine system. We hope to provide experimental attestation for the theory of"five zang-organs correspond to time".2. Methods2.1 Theoretical methods: Literature survey, logic analysis and other methods were used to analyze those:2.1.1 We clear up the history of the theory of"five zang-organs correspond to time", discuss the ancient Chinese philosophy of this theory, analyze the advantages and shortages in this theory, and expatiate the contribution to the medical theories and therapeutic practice.2.1.2 We discuss the relationship between theory of"five zang-organs correspond to time"and some achievements of modern science of life, such as cybernetics, system theory, temporal and environmental medicine, nervous- endocrine system, cell signal transduction and so on, in order to break a new path for the study on the zang-xiang theory of TCM.2.1.3 We analyze the results of the preliminary experiments and discuss why we choose thyroid axis and pineal gland as the key point to experiment on it. which is in order to propose feasible way to study on the Zang-Xiang theory of TCM2.2 Experimental methods 2.2.1 Collectivity designThe experiment study makes thyroid axis and pineal gland as the key point. Under physiological condition, changes of hypothalamic-pituitary- thyroid axis, melatonin and some indexes which used to reflect the condition of skeleton formation , corresponding to winter and summer , were investigated. The regulation role of pineal gland at a high level during this process was also observed. We hope to show the modulating mechanism on the'kidney corresponds with winter'of TCM.2.2.2 Experiment animalForty healthy adults, twenty male and twenty female, twenty-two to twenty-five age, which are the students in Beijing university of Traditional Chinese Medicine. We ask them and make sure that their liver and kidney function are normal, without any nutritional disorder and osteopathia, then on 6:30pm of the Winter Solstice and the Summer Solstice, we took their limosis venous blood 10ml to experiment.2.2.3 Test methodsSerum melatonin,T3,T4,TSH,TRH,BGP were detected in the way of radiation immunity analysis. Serum CICP and BALP were detected in the way of Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.2.2.4 Date analysis methodsAll the data were showed in the form of±s. The difference of group was tested in SPSS 10.0.3. Results3.1 Under physiological condition, seasonal effects of pineal gland in body changed. The results proved that melatonin in serum is higher in winter and lower in summer.3.2 Under physiological condition , hormones concerned with thyroid axis in the body would be significantly affected by seasonal changes of winter and summer. It was shown thatT3, TSH, TRH (P<0.01) in serum is higher in winter and lower in summer, and there was no significant difference for T4.3.3 Under physiological condition , indexes concerned with skeleton formation in the body would be significantly affected by seasonal changes of winter and summer. It was shown that CICP and BALP (P<0.01) in serum is higher in winter and lower in summer, and there was no significant difference for BGP.3.4 There is close relationship among pineal gland, thyroid axis and skeleton formation. In the Winter Solstice,there is a positive correlation between MT and TRH(P<0.01), the related coefficient is 0.559,and there was no significant correlation among MT andT3,T4,TSH. there is a positive correlation between T3 and BGP (P<0.05), the related coefficient is 0.524, the related coefficient for T3 and CICP is 0.547.There is a positive correlation between T3 and BALP (P<0.01)too, the related coefficient is 0.714. In the Summer Solstice, there is a positive correlation between T4andBGP (P<0.05), the related coefficient is 0.524. there is a positive correlation between TRH and BGP (P<0.05), the related coefficient is 0.491. there is a negative correlation between TSH and BALP (P<0.01), the related coefficient is -0.585.4. Conclusions4.1 The nervous- endocrine system in the body correspondence with the nature, the corresponding change of the function of five zang-organs along with the change of season. This provide experimental and scientific attestation for the theory of"five zang-organs correspond to time".4.2 The function of"the kidney determines the condition of the bone"was affected by seasonal changes of winter and summer. indexes concerned with skeleton formation in the body is higher in winter and lower in summer, it showed that The function of the kidney controls the bone must be reinforced in winter.3.2.4 The modulating mechanism of'kidney corresponds to the winter'in aspect of controlling the bone might be summed up as: The decrease of natural light during winter stimulates pineal gland to increase the secretion of melatonin, activating melatonin receptor , at the same time , the changes of natural temperature or other factors stimulates other receptors in human body, and that makes the increased hormones secretion of neuroendocrine at levels of the hypothalamic-pituitary- thyroid axis, then make the function of"the kidney determines the condition of the bone"reinforced in winter.
