Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals are the electrical activities in the cortex or on the surface of scalp caused by the physiological activities of the brain which play a key role in the diagnosis of brain and the functional determination of brain. But the EEG signals have commonly a very low amplitude with high background noises. The noises usually have the features of non-stationary, non-gaussian and non-linear. Therefore, the research on denoising looks very important. Traditional ways of EEG signal denoising are abandon the noising signal or analyzing EEG signal as a linear and stationary signal, which in many cases the performance is not satisfied. Independent component analysis(ICA) is a new approach to blind source separation(BSS) which developed in mid 90's of the 20th century. Now it becomes a popular and useful method in signal analysis and processing.Based on analysis of methods of EEG signal processing, each method is been simulated, analyzed and discussed with real EEG signals. Consider of the feature that EEG signals meet the requirements of ICA method which the source signals should be independent and linear mixed to each other, we propose to use ICA method to analyze and processe EEG signal. The noises are successfully removed and the feature wave a of eyes-closed-EEG signal is also successfully extracted. The main contents and results in this paper are as follows.1. Summarize the feature, classification, obtaining and methods of analysis of EEG signal, and summarize the strongpoint and defect of those methods.2.The methods which commonly used in EEG signals processing are simulated, and their advantages and disadvantages are detailed.3. The feasibility of using ICA method in EEG signal denoising been demonstrated.4. ECG artifact and power noise are successfully removed from the origanal EEG signal with the ICA method with no harm to the details of EEG signals.5. The feasibility of using ICA method to extract a rhythm in eyes-closed-EEG signal been indicated. ICA method is also to be used in the extraction of a rhythm, which appeared when people close his or her eyes.
