Objectives: The purposes of the study are to enhance the supervision and management of radioactive isotope rays and instruments, ensure the health and security of the stuff as well as the common people, protect the environment and promote the application and development of technology in radioactive isotope; to guarantee the quality and security of medical treatment; to carry out the state regulations on Radiation hygiene, normalize the management of Radiation hygiene and improve the ability of independent management; to prevent, control and eliminate the harmfulness of occupational diseases; to provide reliable evidence for hygiene administrative department and let the ones related to the work known the situation of radioactive management in our city and give advice to them. Methods: Analyze the examination results from the state owned or privately-run businesses in the ten districts and counties under Taiyuan jurisdiction, which produce, use, or sell radioactive devices by way of collecting responses, consulting records, examining on the spots and filling out forms by questionnaires. Results: 1. 98.9% of these businesses has carried out the rules and set up records. 2. All the newly-built or rebuilt programs are strictly and preventively supervised. The related departments can report timely the harmfulness of occupational diseases to the sanitary bureau and will be examined by the bureau. 3. The coverage of frequent supervision has reached 100 percent. Licensed ratio of departments which use radioactive isotope is clearly higher than that of licensed personnel who use radioactive devices. 4. The qualification rate in horizontal supervision of external irradiation is 98.8%. No accident caused by radiation. The unqualified places are mainly the location of doors and windows. Most of the work places have installed indicator lights, warning signs and ventilation devices. But some of the lights cannot work well and some warning signs are not put up correctly. 5. The training rate is 97.7%, of which the rate of training of newly enrolled workers is 100% while the retraining rate is 97.6%. 6. Physical examination rate is 90.9%, of which the employed ones take up 90.6% while the newly employed ones take up 100%. Unfortunately, those who are now off their posts are not examined before they left their posts. No case of being radiated is found. 7. The rate of supervision on the external irradiation dosage per person is 86.2%. Among them, the distribution of dosage is as follows:776<2mSV,5≥2mSV ,no one takes more than or equal to 20mSV or 50mSV .The dosage per person in a year is 0.8mSv/a. 8. Most radioactive workers enjoy the off work vacation and health allowances though the amount is limited. Only a few departments offer no vacation or allowance to their workers.
