The research of Electroencephalogram (EEG) is of great significance and clinical importance in the study of cognitive function and neural activity of a brain. There are two key problems in the field of EEG, EEG forward problem and EEG inverse problem. EEG forward problem aims at getting the distribution of the scalp potential due to the known current distribution in the brain, and inverse problem aims at getting the information of the source in the brain based on the distribution of the scalp potential. In order to be more precise in EEG, the finite element model of realistic head is still indispensable. The construction of realistic finite element method(FEM) model is researched in this paper. In chapter 1, the meaning of the research on FEM for EEG Forward problem and CIT was introduced briefly, and its development, key problems, and application prospects were stated in detail. The research progress, existing problems, and the development trend on EEG Forward problem and CIT are summarized. And the structure of the thesis and the main results of the research are presented. In chapter 2, a method for building the boundary element method(BEM) model based on the FEM model is constructed. This method is based on the BEM model and is convenient for the realistic FEM model bulding. The 3-layer sphere model is simulated to prove the validity of this method. In chapter 3, the segmentation of magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) is researched and a new fully-automatic process to segment tissues from MRJ is introduced. In chapter 4, a new idea of modeling is introduced. It makes the process of realistic FEM model easier, and is a base for the automatic building of realistic FEM model. A 5-layer realistic FEM model is used for the simulation in EEG forward problem, and the validation of the method is carried out with a 3-layer sphere model. And the refinement of the finite elements is researched.
