| It's urgent to control the population because the number of the people in thedeveloping countries is becoming bigger and bigger. And this problem is moremarked in China. Since we has implemented the family planning in 1970s', theincrease of the population is under the control of the government. Finding the newmedicine and the technique is the hotspots and emphases in order to control thepopulation more effectively and safely. The anti-procreation has the long history and many kinds of methods inChinese medicine. But under the limit of ethic and morality in the feudal society,there are only restricted recordations in history. The inevitable trend is to find thesafe, effective, handy and low poisonous anti-fertilization medicine in the Chineseherb. Herba Dianthi was firstly recorded in Shennong Bencao Jing. It has the actionof relieving dysuria, and stimulating menstrual discharge. In the past dynasties,people had regarded Herba Dianthi as taboo medicine in pregnancy. So it will givebasis of documents to search effective, low poisonous, safe anti-procreationmedicine. The paper consists of two parts: literature summarization and experimentalstudies.Literature summarization 1.Literature summarization of the pregnancy taboo In our long history, there are many records about the pregnancy taboo. Thefirst book that registered the herbs of abortive effect is Shanhaijing inChunqiuzhanguo period. And the first book recorded the medicine and food whichthe pregnant woman should avoid to eat is Shennong Bencao Jing. After this, thereare many records about the pregnancy taboo in Jinkui Yaolue, Qianjin Fang. TheBencao Gangmu which noted the most kinds of pregnancy taboo medicinesrecorded 247 pregnancy taboo medicines. The pregnancy taboo medicine can be divided into two kinds: avoid using andbe careful to use. The medicine, which is avoided using, is always strong toxicityand violent function. The medicine, which is careful to use, is Promoting BloodCirculation and Removing Blood Stasis drugs, Regulating Qi drugs, EliminatingDampness drugs, and so on. The pregnancy taboo medicine gives us the revelation not only in avoidingusing this medicine while pregnancy period, but also in other applied field, such asanti- procreation in woman or man, treat tumour, the animal reproduction control,etc. 2 . The modern research of anti-procreation in the traditional Chinesemedicine The research of anti-procreation herbs always starts on female and maleprocreation systems. The anti-procreation herbs, affected on female procreationsystem, are related with composing hormone, speeding the womb shrink,destroying the circumstance of embryo embedded. This kind of medicine is FlosGenkwa, Caulis Piperis Kadsurae, etc. The anti-procreation herbs, affected onmale procreation system, are related with killing sperm outside the body. This kindof medicine is gossypol, earthworm, etc. 3.The summary of Herba Dianthi we mainly have a study of its name, plant shape, variety textual research,change of medical position, the effect to pregnancy, chemistry, pharmacologyfunction, clinical practice.Experimental studies 1.the experiment about antiimplantation and antigestational action of HerbaDianthi Methods: Female ICR mice were bred with male ICR mice in the proportion of 3:1, andthe day of vaginal plugging was designated Day 1 of pregnancy. On Day 1～5 or6～10 of pregnancy, each pregnant mouse was treated with Herba Dianthi fruit,distilled by 70% alcohol. The mice were closely observed for onset of labor, asindicated by the onset of vaginal bleeding. On day 12, the mice were killed andanatomized. We observed the abortion percentage, embryo status, P assays,decidua and ovary sell. Results: In the antiimplantation experiment, compared with control group, the HerbaDianthi fruit has the obvious antiimplantation effect. The abortion percentageincreases in the groups treating with drugs, and it shows the relationship of doseand effect.
