| Objective: To review the effect of acupuncture for tension-type headache. Methods: A systematic review of the relevant randomizied controlled trials(RCTS) of acupunture for tension-type headache was performed according to International Cochrane Collaboration. Data Source: Trials were collected from Cochrane Library, CBM, VIP and handsearching. Data Extraction and Analysis: Information was extracted by two reviewers independently. Statistic analysis was managed by Revmen 4.2 from Cochrane organiztion. Inclusion Criteria: Tuly or quasi randomized controlled trials of acupuncture for tension-type headache . Results: 13 RCTS, totally 571 cases were included, with 6 trials of high methodological quality according to Jadad scale. 6 trials adopted double-blind, 1 used single-blind; 8 trials used "sham" acupunture for controlled intervention. Meta-analysis indicated that, compared with the "sham" acupuncture group, OR of the responder rate(earliest data after treatment) was 3.6(P= 0.06, 95%CI[0.93,13.90]). WMD of Vasual Analogue Scale was-0.55 (P=0.09, 95%CI[-1.20,0.09]) of the earliest data after treatment; -0.22 (P=0.50,95%CI[-0.87,0.42]) of the data of follow up less than 2 months; -0.65 (P=0.09,95%CI[-0.41,0.11]) of the data of follow up more than 2 months. These data had no statistical significance, but showed that acupuncture had a tendency to be more effective and reduce the VAS score. Conclusion: Compared with "sham acupuncture" and other treatments, current evidence could not evaluate whether true acupuncture was statistically effective for tension-type headache, more randomized controlled trials of high quality are required for next step research. |
