In international society, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has not been widely identified and accepted by public due to the reason of difficulty in explaining the acting mechanism using the theory of modern biomedicine. Along with the development of the conception of green environmental protection, research for the acting mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine in gene level has increasingly attracted people's attention. Biochip is a kind of potential and powerful tool to study the function mechanism of medicine. How to effectively combine the advantage of the traditional Chinese medicine and the methods and means of modern science and technology has already become the important issue in the TCM field. DNA microarrays for gene expression profiles for drug function mechanism research has been explored in this paper.According to the concept of the biochip and its preparation method, the meaning of the acting mechanism study of TCM, the actuality and development of application of gene chip to TCM mechanism research, have been discussed. Then, the concept, measuring principal and experiment flow of the DNA microarrays for gene expression profiles were studied. On the basis of defining experimental subjects, the experiments have been designed. Finally, after studying the mathematical methods of anglicizing gene chip, experimental data were analyzed by using manual classification method. The reliability of experimental result was analyzed. It is concluded that DNA microarrays for gene expression profiles can be used in researching the function mechanism of TCM high-efficiently and accurately. Manual classification method has the advantage of processing mass data fast and easily.
