Objective To study the role of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) in the etiology of pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH), go step further to clarify the pathogenesis of PIH.Methods Candidates include normal late-pregnancy group (n=13), moderate-severe PIH group (n=20). Levels of serum PDGF-BB were measured by means of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. (ELISA). Expression of PDGF-B mRNA in decidual blood vessel were determined by means of in situ hybridization(ISH).Results The results showed: 1. Levels of PDGF-BB in normal pregnant group is (39.61 ?8.20) pg/ml, in moderate-severe PIH group is(83.54 ?4.52)pg/ml, PDGF concentration in moderate-severe PIHgroup is obviously higher than controls (PO.001). 2. Expression of PDGF-B mRNA in decidual blood vessel in PIH group was significantly stronger than normal late-pregnancy group (PO.001). 3. Level of serum PDGF is positively correlate with expression of PDGF-B mRNA( r=0.372, PO.05).Conclusion PDGF is associated with pathology of decidual blood vessel. Elevated serum levels of PDGF and expression of PDGF-B mRNA in decidual blood vessel may play an important roleinin pathogenesis of PIH.
