Purpose: To investigate and discuss the case rate, high risk factors andsyndromes of the depression.Subject: undergraduate students of a college.Methods:First step: 662 undergraduate students were investigated with SDS and the list of high risk factors, within which there were 231 students whose score of SDS were higher than 50;Second step: 231 students were investigated and examined with HAMD and four digmatic methods. 48 cases were diagnosed depression according to the standard of CCMD-III. Differ the symptoms and signs of them with the table of the depression's TCM syndromes. Result:I . The case rate of depression is 7.3 percent in this college;II. There is Qi-dynamic disorder of various degree in the patients, and stagnation of qi is majority. Stagnation of qi is the main characteristic in 13 cases and the secondary in the others whose main characteristics are cold-dampness, fever of deficience type, cold of insufficiency type, phlegm-heat and blood stasis with 11, 9, 7, 4 and 4 cases.Promption: The basic pathogenesis of depression is Qi-dynamic disorder. It offers us a overall viewpoint according with clinic to diagnose and treat the depression.III. More negative life events, heavy burden of study, weak constitution, disharmony of family, introversion of personality and unstable mood are high risk factors of depression. The case rate in the group which have widespread hobbies and like to make friends is lower. Single-child, social stratum, from city or town, grade and sex didn't affect the rate obvious'.).
