Objective:To observe the pattern of apoptosis of brain cells in the hypoxicischemic encephalopathy(HIE)model rats and study the effect of salvia miltiorrhizae on apoptosis,in order to provide experimental basis for the clinical appliance of salvia miltiorrhizae. Methods:Models of HIE were established in newborn rats of 7 days ~The percentage of neuronal apoptosis was determined by flow cytometry 2h - 7d after hypoxic-ischemia(HI). The newborn rats were randomly divided into 4 groups ,normal control, HI ,HI with salvia miltiorrhizae at long dosing intervals, HI with salvia miltiorrhizae at short dosing intervals. The percentage of neuronal apoptosis was measured at the 48th hour after HI and taken as the index of the severity of cerebral injuries, meanwhile agarose gel electrorhorsis was used to observe the DNA fragmentation and pathologic changes of brain tissue were recorded. Results:The peak level of apoptosis was shown at the 48th hour after HI in the experiment (21.82% ?1 .5%).The administration of salvia miltiorrhizae after HI could effectively prohibit apoptosis(p
