A Study of Sectional Anatomy and 3D Reconstructionon the Deep Cervical Fasciae and Fascial SpaceAbstractCryosection and plastination were applied to make serial thin sections and were employed to study the deep cervical fasciae and fascial spaces The correlation of the sectional anatomy and imaging anatomy of the neck were demonstrated by the serial thin sections in comparison with MRI and CT. A SGI work station was employed to reconstruct the structures of deep cervical fascial spaces in three-dimensions. The main results from the study are as following:(1)The layers and characteristics of the deep cervical fasciae were observed. It is found that the deep cervical fasciae should be divided into four layers, and the fasciae of the infrahyoid muscles be a single layer. The deep layer of the deep cervical fasciae is subdivided into alar fasciae and prevertebral fasciae, and the alar fasciae was very thin. The carotid sheath consists of all the layers of the deep cervical fasciae. Through the research the model picture has come out. It provids anatomical basis to surgery.(2)The position, relations and appearing planes of the deep cervical fascial spaces were observed on the thin serial axial sections. The danger space was proved to exist. It is found the suprasternal space should be enclosed by the superficial layer of the deep cervical fasciae and the fasciae of the infrahyoid muscles, rather than the past opinion of the textbook.(3)The communication of the deep cervical fascial spaces were observed systematically on the axial sections. It is found that the carotid space was an open space, which communicated with the posterior cervical spaceposteriolaterally The alar fasciae between the danger space and the posteriorpharyngeal space is very thin, Which is easy to suffer from the infection andthe tllmor. It provids an anatOmical proof fOr the clinic to contro1 the cervicalinfection.(4) Cryosections of l5 cadaver deep cervical fascial space were comparedwith MRI and spiral CT in axial planes. The study has demonstratedparapharyngeal space was the key structure to imagodiagnosis. from itsdirection of displace, the masses' arising can be justified. Therefore MRI issuPerior tO CT in diagnosis of the deep cervical diseases.(5) The double line was used to produce the outline of the fascial spacefrom the plastination section. SGI work station was employed to reconstructthe posterial pharyngeal space, carotid space and visceral space inthree-dimensions.. A new method was employed to reconsmict fascial space. The main structure of fascial space was displayed as well. All reconsttuctedsmictutes could be rotated in 3D space or rotated coniinuous1y at differentvelocity...
