A Eye Treated By The Study Of Graves' Ophthalmopathy

Graves Disease is an autoimmune disease, induced to hyper't hyroidism and excessive thyroid hormone by several kinds of causes of disease. There are clinical manifestations in main such as goiter, esophthaLmos, and hypermetabolism. Graves ophthalmopathy (GO) is a common symptom in Graves Disease. The incidence of GO in Graves Disease is about 50% , It is an autoimmune disease that not only destroy patient?s color but also reduce patient s vision. There is no effective therapy nowadays. This paper summarized the last progress of pathogen, pathology, treatment and pharmacological study on GO. It is considered that TCM had good effect on symptoms and immunity with less side-effect and lower recurrence rate. The studies show that the conglomeration of GAG is the direct factor leading to GO. TCM considers emotional stimulations are the most important pathogeny to GO. In the early days, emotional stimulations lead to the stagnation and depression of the Hepatic Qi. The Qi and the body fluids can not flow normally, then produce a lot of phlegm and the stagnant blood, and the flyer stasis are easy to turning into the hepatic fire, so the hepatic fire take the phlegm and stagnant blood uprush to the eyes resulting to esophthalmos. Usually the dispersing function of the liver will disturb and affect the spleen, there appear simultaneous pathologic manifestations of the liver and the spleen. The deficiency of the spleen also lead to stagnation of sputum, the stagnant blood and the sputum uprush to the eyes aggravating GO. As time passing by, the liver fire damnificition Qi and Yin. so deficiency of Qi and Yin, flaring up of liver fire, stagnancy of phlegm and atagnant blood are the main pathogenesis. As a Chinese medicine, Jia-Yan-Xiao (JYX) is of the function such as tonifymg the Qi and producing the Yin, purging the liver fire, eliminate phlegm and removing blood stasis. In this paper, in order to study the therapeutic effect of JYX on Graves ophthaLmopathy . Fifty patients were divided randomly into three groups, the 25 patients in the treated group were treated with JYX plus tapazole, and the 15 patients in the control group were treated with prednisone plus tapazole, the left 10 patients were treated only with tapazole. The therapeutic course of both groups was 6 months. The symptoms, eye signs, thyroxin level, GAG level and other routine laboratory parameters as well as the adverse effect of the therapy were observed and compared between two groups. The result shows that the total effective rate in the treated group was 88 %, which was obviously higher than that in the control group (53.3%, P<0.05). Effect of the treated group in lowering degree of exophthalmos was superior to that of the control group. Effects in elevating vision, lowering serum FT T% PT. TT4 and GAG contents in the two groups were similar (pO.O5). Moreover, the treated group showed better efficacy in improving clinical symptoms with less adverse effect. It is improved that JYX could minify exophthalmos, reduce serum GAG content and relieve symptoms of GO significantly. This research established as clinical elements to study the TCM mechanism of action to GO further.
