The Acupuncture Treatment Of Epilepsy And Xifeng Capsule Tonic - Clonic Seizure, Clinical And Experimental Research

Tonic-clonic seizures is the most common type of epilepsy of childhood , characterized by sudden loss of consciousness and general totanic spasm. Some patients are often accompanied with cognitive retardation. On the basis of clinical practice and TCM theories and combined with modem medicine , Professor Ma Rong proposed the i Shen Tian Jing , Huo Tan Xi Fengreatment principle , under which Feng Jiao Nangormula was made. The combined application of acupuncture and herbs showed good results. In order to explore its clinical value and fttnctioning mechanism , we made discussions in theory and did researches in clinic and experiment. The result of the of the theoretical study: The cause and pathomechanism of this disease lies in root vacuity (kidney essence vacuity) and tip repletion (characterized by wind and phlegm) ,qi dynamic counterflow. The therapy of Shen Tian Jing, Huo Tan Xi Fengan efficiently control the seizures and improve the cognitive ftmctioning. The result of the clinical study: 1. Not only the seizure frequency has been obviously lessened, but also the seizure duration has been apparently shortened .The effective rates of them reached 90 percent and 80 percent respectively. 2. Abnormal epileptic EEG has been greatly improved ,compared with the control group .There was a significant difference in between. 3. Abnormal tongue and pulse have been improved ,with the treatment group better than the control group. The result of the experimental study: 1. The autonomic action of mice has been apparently inhibited ,which shows that the therapy has good sedative effect on CNS. 2. The MES of mice has been antagonized efficiently .The anticonvulsant rate under the combined application of acupuncture and herbs reached 88.9 percent. It was better than the herbs group ,but no different from the westem medicine group. 3. The convulsion induced by strychnine was controlled to some extent and the period of convulsion and death has been lengthened .There 168 was no difference betWeen the combined aPplication group ofacupuncture and herbs and the westem medicine group.
