Hyperthyroidism generally belongs to the goiter domain of Chinese medicine. In narrow sense, it is called gall gas. Modern medicine refers this to the increase of thyroid hormone caused by various reasons which enter the blood circulation for use of body tissues and organs, increase the excitability of the nerve system, circulation system and digestive system of organism, and the generic term for hypermetabolism.Recently, along with the constant acceleration of life and working rhythm, the occurrence of hyperthyroidism increase obviously. The characteristic of this disease is a longer treatment duration, show repeated effect easily, accompanied by hand shivering, easily agitated, bulged eye, neck clinical symptoms and signs, this will give great effects to the patients' life, work, and image. Hence, this study will use literature data base search to prepare a previous and current literature review on ways to treat hyperthyroidism from the perspectives of Chinese medicine, to discuss and analyze the reasons and treatment of hyperthyroidism from the perspectives of traditional/modern medicine and western/ Chinese medicine. Based on the literature review, it was found that Chinese medicine showed obvious curative effect on hyperthyroidism. When coordinate with western medicine, it can shorten the treatment duration, reduce the western medicine dosage, mitigate the complications of western medicine treatment, reduce the recurrence of hyperthyroidism, improve the organism immune system, improve patients' clinical symptoms, and improve patient's life quality.Besides this, based on the literature review of traditional and modern medicine on hyperthyroidism, this study will conclude the clinical experience of Professor Ni Qing on this disease. His experience on this disease had shown curative effect, thus his treatment and vast experience in treating hyperthyroidism has enriched the literature in this field of study, open the new thoughts in treating hyperthyroidism, and prepare theoretical basis for his follow-up studies.Graves ophthalmopathy (abbreviated as "GO" hereafter) generally belongs to the goiter domain of Chinese medicine. It is one of the commonly-seen complications of hyperthyroidism, a kind of one's own immune thyroid gland disease related eye disease .
