Objects 1.To compare the effect of the Chinese and western medicine in the treatment of the chronic severe hepatitis B to that of the western medicine.2.To compare the death rate and the prospective death rate of the Chinese and western medicine in the treatment of the chronic severe hepatitis B to that of the western medicine.3.To compare the effect of different methods of the Chinese and western medicine.Method The clinical trial takes the randomized method.The 36 patients are divided to 2 groups treated with the Chinese and western medicine or western medicine only. The effects were observed after 2 weeks at least.Result 1. The death rate of the group treated with the Chinese and western medicine(25.93%) is lower than that of the group treated with the western medicine only(44.44%),while there is no significant difference(P=0.112>0.05).The improvement rate of group treated with the Chinese and western medicine (62.96%) is higher than that of the group treated with the western medicine only(44.44%),while there is no significant difference(P=0.277>0.05).The incidence rates of complications of two groups have no significant differences(P>0.05).2. In the patients of higher MELD scores,the death rate of the group treated with the Chinese and western medicine(24%) is lower than the prospective death rate(76%),while there is significant difference(P=0.000<0.05). And the death rate(44%) of the group treated with the western medicine only is lower than the prospective death rate(76%),while there is no significant(P=0.148>0.05.)3.The death date, improvement rate, traditional chinese medicine scores, total bilirubin and decline rate have no significant differences among the 3 groups treated with western medicine and different herbal drugs(P>0.05).Conclusion 1. In this research,the death rate of the group treated with the Chinese and western medicine(25.93%) is lower than that of the group treated with the western medicine only(44.44%).The improvement rate of group treated with the Chinese and western medicine (62.96%) is higher than that of the group treated with the western medicine only(44.44%).The final conclusion has not been cleared until the whole rearch is completed. 2. Under the current treatment,the death date of the chronic severe hepatitis B has declined over 2001. The death rate of the chinese and western medicine group has decreased dramatically.
