As China's market economic system is increasingly improved, the competition between market equities is becoming more and more intensive. Industrial competitiveness especially the one of dominant industry, has become one of the major indexes determining a country's or a region's competition capability. Medical industry, being an important economic sector involving the health and safety of all social members and a relatively rapid developed industry in our economy, platys an increasingly important role in our national economy. In recent years, the medical industry in Yunnan Province has achieved long and steady progress, with 176 enterprises involved in medical industry by the end of 2008 and fulfilling the total industrial value of 9.361 billion RMB yuan. However, compared with other southwestern provinces and cities such as Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou, Guangxi and other big medical industry provinces and under such fierce competitive circumstances, it still has great gaps and will continue to meet greater challenges and opportunities despite its medical quota shares in China accounting for 1.2%.In retrospection of the relevant domestic and foreign theories on industry competition and regional competition, and integrating the comparative priority theory with competitive priority theory, the thesis first gives a brief account and analysis of the medical status quo of Yunnan and China, then in light of the two theories analyzes the comparative and competitive priorities of the medical industry of Yunnan Province, obtaining the competitive power between different industries and within the same industry. Finally the thesis, comparing and contrasting the comparative priority and competitive priority in a comprehensive manner and applying SWOT approach to its analysis, puts forward some proposals to increase Yunnan medical industry's competitiveness.
