Material Resources For Sustainable Use

Many scarce material resources play very important roles in the sustainable development of economy and society. Therefore, it is of vital importance to achieve the sustainable utilization of material resources for China, a country with relatively poor per-capita resources.Integrating theory with practice, this thesis analyzes the status quo of the utilization of resources in China, and addresses the strategies of how to utilize material resources sustainably on the theoretical research of sustainable utilization of material resources.In foreword, the background and significance of the main topic of this thesis are set out, the logical framework is briefly outlined, and the main views of this thesis are pointed out.Partâ… is a review of prime theories involving sustainable utilization of material resources. In this part, the theories and opinions of Marx and main Marxism writers are briefly summarized, and then, the opinions of the pessimists and the optimists are outlined, compared and commented upon.partâ…¡analyses the criteria for evaluation of the sustainable utilization of material resources. Based on the definition of functional material resources, eight indicators from both absolute and relative aims are set out to measure the extent of the sustainable utilization of material resources.partâ…¢focuses on the basic principles of the sustainable utilization of material resources. At the micro level, the effects of the static and inter-period allocation of material resources on their sustainable utilization are studied respectively and contrasted, which is fallowed by the conclusion from the macro aspect that the sustainable utilization of material resources is affected directly or indirectly by economic development strategies, technological progress, structural change, institutional innovation and improvement of the quality of the population.Part IV points out three main problems in the utilization of material resources in China: overdependence-on-inputs economic development, low efficiency of resource utilization, inadequate reutilization and recycling of material resources. It is followed by an analysis of main reasons for these problems: unscientific one-sided pursuit of GDP growth which is induced by the unscientific assessment system, the imperfect mechanisms and price distortions.Some recommendations from four aspects are put forward to solve the problems in the utilization of material resources in China in part V. Firstly, it is necessary to allocate resources scientifically and rationally to the place where they are needed most in order to improve the utilization efficiency of material resources; Secondly, in accordance with the"reduction, reutilization, recycling"ideas, the waste of resources should be reduced, reutilized and recycled as much as possible; thirdly, more and more potential substitute material resources should be explored ; lastly, the pattern of economic development should be transformed from strategic perspective to promote the sustainable utilization of material resources.
