Tanggu District, Tianjin Industrial Heritage Tourism

Industrial heritage is industrial and cultural relics that has the value of history,sociology,architecture,technical,aesthetic and scientific,and is an important part of the history and culture of a country, a region and a city. In recent years, countries around the world take a more and more attention to the protection of industrial heritage,and the protection work has become a widespread concern topic of the international community. The annual April 18th is "International Day of Monuments and Sites" ,and the theme of 2006 International Monuments and Sites Day is "To treasure and protect the industrial heritage"."Chinese Industrial Heritage Conservation Forum" was held in Wuxi in April 2006, and the protection of industrial heritage was firstly submitted as an important topic on the forum.There is a common saying that Tianjin shows recent 100 years history of China and Tanggu shows recent 100 years history of Tianjin. In modern times, Tianjin is the first open city in northern China,and its long history cultural sites are mainly located in region of the main body of Tanggu. Compared to other parts of the country,Tanggu District's cultural heritage is of high degree of integrity and intensive with the status quo remains. To be the first and unique is a significant feature of the Tanggu District's industrial heritage. For instance, the Northern navy dockyard Dagu are the earliest manifestation of Westernization Movement in northern China. Yongli, Jiuda and the Yellow Sea Chemical Industry Research Institute are the earliest national chemical companies and research institutions of our country that set up in Tanggu by the industrialist Mr. Fan Xudong and scientist Mr. Hou Debang who are the national industrialists of our country in modern times. Thay are the cradle of Chinese chemical,and records of the nearly 100 years history of the development and changes of Chinese chemical industry.In 2006 July to August, my college firstly took a census of Tianjin industrial heritage in the whole city with the guidance and assistance of Literary and Historical Commission of Tianjin CPPCC, Archives and Museum which are cultural units. We took the activities of Tianjin industrial heritage census deep into various districts and counties of Tianjin. We carried out a detailed and in-depth study to the evolution, conservation status and development prospects of the industrial heritage as well as the development current situation of the industrial heritage tourism. We collected a lot of text and picture information and wrote a exhaustive investigation report. I participated in the study of the situation of Tanggu District.This paper analysizes the current situation of the industrial heritage protection and tourism development with the methods of field visits and comparative analysis, identifies the gap between the Western developed countries and our country,clarifies the current situation,advantages,disadvantages of Tianjin Tanggu District industrial heritage protection and tourism development and comes up with strategies so as to explore a new road which is suitable to the development of Tianjin industrial heritage tourism and even the country's industrial heritage tourism.
