China and the United States, separately as the world's largest textile producer as well as exporter and the largest global textile importer, the textile trade plays a very significant role in Sino-US economic relations. In other words, it even has become one of the firmest ties that maintain the Sino-US political relations; but meanwhile it also has become the victim of the bilateral political relations as well as the United States' bargaining counter on other issues with China. The history of the development of Sino-US textile trade can be actually called the history of trade conflicts. The conflicts between China and the United States can date back to the year 1979 when the bilateral trade relation was normalized. And since then their textile trade frictions have never stopped and even been aggravated after china's entry into the WTO. The causes of those conflicts were not only economic factors like America's huge trade deficit or the high rate of unemployment in the US textile industry, but also were affected by some non-economic factors, such as US political system, US strategic considerations, US interest groups and US trade protectionism. The effective way to solve the textile trade conflicts will be using the WTO dispute-settlement system. In addition, to further diversify China's textile export markets in order to reduce its dependence on the US market as well as adjust the textile export strategies so as to realize its transform from comparative advantage to competitive advantage, is essential to the development of China's textile industry. Although in a short time the two sides will face fierce competition and interest conflicts, in the long run their textile industries can be complementary and development will be the inevitable trend of the Sino-US textile trade relation.
