A corporate re-organization happened in 2008, and fierce competition can be anticipated in telecom market in China. This re-organization symbolize the age of full-services competition come in telecom industry.China Telecom as a leading fixed network telecom operator with long history will face stronger market pressure from competitors, such as China Mobile, China Unicom when these telecom operators can provide almost same services or products. It is critical problem that how to build China Telecom's core competition ability in new market while keeping the current advantage in traditional services. This problem deserves to be thought carefully and deeply.This paper tries to give some suggestions to this problem. At first, this paper introduces the history and development of China telecom industry in order to give readers some ideas to understand the environment faced by China Telecom. In chapter 2, five forces model will be illustrated according to the situation of China Telecom. For the drawback of lacking practicing in reality of five forces model, in chapter 3 five forces model will be further analyzed by financial tools. In chapter 4, this paper set forth some advices on how to help China Telecom to build the core competition ability after the analysis of SWOT.
