| Since 1990's, many enterprises have brought out an upsurge of diversification operate in China. Tourism companies are characterized by its prominent season, high sensitivity, single business and low business achievements, and also try to diversify actively. Although there are several successful and classical cases, t is more often to see that not only diversification management company's achievements do not be improved, but instead they fall into the diversification"trap"deeply. Why some companies can make fruits with good performance via diversification while some companies cannot. What is the relationship between type of diversification and enterprise competitiveness and which type of diversification is best for Chinese enterprises?According to the newest tendency of tourism industry, listed tourism companies are divided into six different species. On the basis of theoretical analysis, this paper applies Factor Analysis of pooled data of listed tourism companies in 2004-2007 to make study of the correlation between diversification category and enterprise competitiveness, with the result showing that there is significant positive correlation between correlate diversification and enterprise competitiveness.Generally speaking, enterprise competitiveness of listed tourism companies with related business and dominant business are preferable to those with unrelated business and single Business. It is important to note that not every one of listed tourism companies with related business and dominant business have better enterprise competitiveness. Only those based on the core competence are better than any others. The core competence is the source for enterprise to obtain and maintain their long-term competitive advantages.In conclusion, listed tourism companies should choose moderate diversification associating with their core competence. In order to survival and develop in the increasingly acute competitive environment, it is significant for firm to cultivate core competence. |
