Liaoning Provincial Tourism Economic Effect Analysis And Countermeasures

The economic impact of tourism is one of the three main research topics in tourism research. Over the past decades, the study on the impacts of the multipliers theory on tourism industry has become a standard tool of empirical analysis.This dissertation analyzes the economic impact of tourism in Liaoning province based on the input-output table in 2002. Some possible policy recommendations are also discussed. The main results of this study include: (1) Foreign exchange earning effect of tourism, which is growing steady, is significant in Liaoning Province. (2) The employment effect of tourism is not significant. (3) The promoting effect of tourism is much larger than the pulling effect of economy. (4) The direct pulling effect is obvious for accommodation, catering, wholesale and retail industry pulling. As the small proportion of non-essential spending in tourists' total expenditure, there is still space for the tourism development. (5) As the promoting effect of tourism is significant, active strategy should be taken. The whole dissertation is organized in 4 chapters. The structure arranges as follows.Chapter 1 is the background introduction, which illustrates the theoretical basis and reviews the relevant research on the economic impact of tourism.Chapter 2 describes the related theories about economic impact of tourism. The concept of tourism, the types of economic impact of tourism, and the main influencing factors are introduced. According the nature of the economic value, tourism industry is divided to different types. The economic impact of tourism includes income effect, foreign exchange earning effect, employment effect, and industries linking effect. Economy scale and the linkage between tourism enterprises and the whole economy compose the main influencing factors.Chapter 3, which is the empirical part of this dissertation, introduces the background of the tourism industry and analyzes the foreign exchange effect in Liaoning province. The comprehensive employment coefficient of tourism employment effect is estimated. According to relevant economics theory, the comparison of comprehensive employment coefficient between tourism industry and other industries is presented in this chapter. The industries linking effect and main influencing factors are also discussed in this section.Chapter 4 provides some possible policy recommendations on the basis of the analysis of economic impact of tourism.
