Recently, the catering industry, as one of traditional service industries, has developed rapidly, to some degree it is related to the consumption of a country, thus affecting economic development of a country. Chain catering industry as a major sub-industry, has drawn more and more attention due to its advantages. The whole country has already been issued relevant policies of great support for developing catering industry, which afford catering enterprises many opportunities, then how to promote this industry's competitiveness becomes a major issue. In recent years, Yunnan's chain catering industry has developed soundly, contributed to Yunnan's economy as well, but there still exists some problems. The purpose of this thesis is to understand the developmental situation of Yunnan's chain catering industry, and offer some feasible suggestions for better development of chain catering industry by applying relevant competitiveness theories and principal component analysis, in comparison with other provinces,cities and autonomous regions.This thesis can be divided by 8 sections, which are: Section I mainly introduces the study background, significance, method and literature review of development of chain catering industry home and abroad so far; Section II traces back the source of theories of industrial competitiveness by applying which this thesis studies, it also discusses the result of studies from the definition and theoretical basis of industrial competitiveness; Section III defines chain catering, chain catering industry, the industrial competitiveness of chain catering industry, and analyzes its connotation and excluded characteristics; Section IV analyzes the present status of chain catering industry in Yunnan using available data, and tries to induct the developmental characteristics of chain catering industry in Yunnan; Section V constructs the evaluation index system in the aspects of design, determinants, main study method and applications, provides empirical study with credits, and briefly analyzes effects by variant factors; Section VI is the empirical study, according to the evaluation index system for chain catering industry constructed above,applies the principal component analysis by comparison with other provinces, cities and autonomous regions; Section VII presents some feasible suggestions for better development of chain catering industry in Yunnan on the basis of result of analysis of Section VI; Section VIII will conclude the whole thesis.
