In recent years, a diffraction grating fabricated using liquid crystal materials has been a new kind of photoelectric devices, which have potential applications in optical communications, light modulators, stereoscopic displays, light beams control, and light processors, etc. The control of liquid crystal grating diffraction characteristics depends on the arrangement of liquid crystal molecules or change of texture states under electric and magnetic fields. The arrangement states of the liquid crystal molecules can not be precisely controlled due to the electric field edge effect under periodic electric field, which to some extent limit the applications of the liquid grating. A variety of ways have been proposed by researchers to improve the diffraction characteristics of the liquid crystal gratings, such as controlling the thickness of liquid crystal box , the width of the stripes electrode, change the electrode structure, etc.In this article, the optical diffraction characteristics of two liquid crystal optical diffraction gratings were measured by using a He-Ne laser with wavelength of 632.8nm as a light source. The change of the states of liquid crystal molecule's deflection and the texture of the gratings were observed under various voltages with a polarizing microscope. Analysis and comparison on the change of states were carried out. Find double-sided electrode stripe liquid crystal grating diffraction characteristics better than the single electrode stripe liquid crystal grating.liquid crystal grating has been widely used in color display monitor because of low cost, simple manufacturing process and being driven by both voltage and frequency. While in color display of monitors, RGB(the three gezer colors, Red, green and blue, which wavelength are 700.0, 546.1, and 435.8 nm, respectively.)three gezer become main reduction of color display, and the RGB three gezer transmissitvity situation of liquid crystal grating directly affect the three colors mixed color reduction effects, such as the reduction of three-dimensional images, stereo feeling, and show quality distortion. So, study on the grating transmittance of the three gezer colors is helpful to reduce chromatic aberration, and, to obtain certain color calibration and compensation, to get precise tone and color saturation.Also the first level light intensity of liquid crystal grating become more and more stronger, when grating constants for 200, 100, and 66.7μm under voltage driven as grating constants decrease. Driven by frequency, as the grating constants decrease, the first level light intensity of liquid crystal grating become More and more weak. This result on the liquid crystal device design, production and use has the reference value. In order to study the liquid crystal diffraction grating on the colored optics monitor application, this article uses the computer that is connected to UV-Vis 8500 dual beam UV-Visible Spectrophotometers, measuring different grating constants of liquid crystal grating RGB tricolor's optical diffraction and spectroscopic properties in voltage driven and frequency driven. The relationship between the spectral characteristics of RGB three primary colors and the grating constant was study, The results show that transmittance of G and B color of liquid crystal grating with grating constants of 200, 100,and 66.7μm, decrease with increasing constant under voltage ranging from 2.4 to 4.0V.The ITO transparent electrode on the liquid crystal grating glass substrates are design as two conductive areas, every conductive area is in configuration of comb electrode. Passes the power failure using the control module control electric conduction area, causes the liquid crystal diffraction grating different region to be diaphanous and lightproof, realize the transformation of grating constant, become a kind of new-style drive-by-wire constant liquid crystal grating. In addition, based on the liquid crystal grating comb electrode end arc shape design, avoid the tip of the discharge, reduced the influence of the right angle electrode to the edge liquid crystal member deflection texture condition. This new-style liquid crystal grating has widespread application in the parallax barrier, has the significant significance to the liquid crystal diffraction grating application development.
