The research of this article is mainly based on the subject "research of optical antenna and terahertz radiation". Relativistic Cherenkov devices are one of the most promising candidates as sources of high-power wave radiation, focused by all the researchers in the world today. Slow wave structure (SWS) is the core of the relativistic Cherenkov devices, which speciality could decide that of the Cherenkov devices directly. Getting the dispersion relation of the SWS quickly and exactly is significant both in theory and practical application.Based on summarizing others' researches, the high frequency characteristics of metal Cherenkov device with both axial and azimuthal periodicity are studied in this study. By theoretical method combing with numerical analysis, the main works are as the following:Firstly, the universal dispersion relation is derived by expanding the boundary of the SWS in Fourier series form, and the dispersion relation of the new-type ridge-loaded disk-loaded SWS is analyzed using this general method. In principle, this method can be applied to efficiently calculating all metal relativistic Cherenkov devices with both axial and azimuthal periodicity.Secondly, a simple and unified theory-Gover theory is applied to study the beam-wave interaction of the Cherenkov devices, to study the small signal gain of the Cherenkov devices with both axial and azimuthal periodicity. And the small signal gain of the new-type ridge-loaded disk-loaded SWS is analyzed using this unified theory.Finally, the dispersion relation and small signal gain of the ridge-loaded disk-loaded SWS is researched based on different geometric parameters and electron beam parameters. By the contrast with the related literature and simulation results, the method in this study is proved to be feasible and effective.The research shows that the Cherenkov devices could get relatively wide bandwidth and greater power output by the reasonable choice of geometric parameters and electron beam parameters.
