The research purpose is to establish a real-time glass bottle inspection system with high automation and advanced technology. The system should have two basic functions: diameter measure and mold number recognition. After deep research on technology relevant to diameter measure and mold number recognition,we made a project based on practical background and the requirements of the company. omputer vision simulates human's vision by percieving and understanding digital image. It has been widely used in industry assembly with several advantages such as non-contactian, higher precision and without interfering with production lines. Following the idea of general system design, a scheme for system of software and hardware with high feasibility, good performance and low price is designed.The key problem of glass bottle diameter measurement is the edge detection. From this point the paper analyses the edge detection mode applied in industrial products test ,and discusses the main factors influencing precision. Number character recognition based on image processing technology has bad real time capability and low recognition rate. In order to solve this problem, the new method of mold point sequence match is proposed which makes use of the unique shape characteristic of the point and achieves a highly efficient recognition with a simplified algorithm. The design scheme has several characters such as non-contact,not interfering with production lines, higher precision and generality of design. This system has been put into practical application in glass bottle company's production line.The method of this system and implementation scheme has theoretical significance and practical value for design of other inspection system and can be used in other production inspection system with wide application prospect.
