Laser shot peening is applied by using a high-energy pulse laser to create a high amplitude stress wave or shock wave on the surface to be treated. It is a combination of traditional peening processing and new laser processing. This paper is aiming at studying on the parameters optimization for strengthening effect of laser shot peening, which can achieve the control and optimization for strengthening effect of laser shot peening. The main contents in this paper were showed as following:The basic process and physics mechanism of laser shock wave were analyzed from the process of interaction between laser and materials. Then the dynamic response of sheet metal acted on the laser shock wave loading and the principle of laser shot peening were discussed. The characteristic parameters of strengthening effect were defined. The control and optimization method was paid more study. Afterwards some major factors that influence the strengthening effect of laser shot peening were analyzed.The Taguchi method was applied into optimization of laser shot peening parameters. Laser shot peening experiments was carried out by orthogonal method based on Taguchi. The surface residual stress, hardness and roughness after laser shot peening were measured. In this work, 9 means and 9 S/N ratios were calculated. The results were obtained by means of statistical software MINITAB. The Taguchi method was used to formulate the experimental layout and establish the order of predominance among the identified critical parameters, and predict the optimal setting for each process parameter.Based on the above experiments, the processes of residual stress field induced by laser shot peening were simulated by using ABAQUS software. The simulation results were in agreement with the analytic results and the experimental results. At the same time, the total life of metal after laser shot peening was calculated by using software MSC.Fatigue. The fatigue life was predicted by using this analytical software. The gained conclusions have great significance for the purpose of optimizing the processing parameters and the controlling of strengthening effect of laser shot peening.
