Color vision measurement is a significant component of non-contact and automated measurement; it has been widely used in manufacture field due to its unique advantages which are mainly in high resolution and high speed. The hardware system and image processing are different from grayscale vision because color information is an attractive addition to edge and shape. In color vision application, the illumination technology plays an important role in imaging. Therefore, a color vision measurement system is constructed for investigating the illumination technology and exploiting the selection law of illumination based on the color of detected objects. Compared to normal grayscale vision measurement, this paper investigates the advantage in discrimination and adaptability of color vision measurement.The main contents are as follows:1. A complete color vision system is constructed for industrial application. The hardware equipments were appropriate selected according to the actual requirements.2. A LED light source of multi-color features, digital adjustable brightness and good uniformity of light radiation was designed with the advantages of RGB LED. The control method of lighting was studied and a driving circuit was made which realized constant-current drive and 256 digital adjustable. This illumination system is proved to be suitable for color vision measurement.3. The irradiance distribution model of ring LED array was constructed. This paper presents a simulation algorithm for computing the irradiance distribution by using Matlab program. The experiment results confirm the validity of simulation algorithm. The mathematic model is useful for designing illumination in the future.4. Study the color rendering of color objects under the illumination with various spectra. The selected law of illumination was generalized based on the color of object. The best matching relationship of illumination intensity and color vision sensor characteristic was exploited by controlling the brightness of illumination accurately.5. The edge of hot metallic surfaces was detected by color vision system. Captured color images were processed by the method of digital filter. The edge was apparently discriminated compared to grayscale vision measurement. It is important for detecting hot metallic surfaces.
