Along with the development of WLAN technology, Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) is getting more and more popular among researchers. Unlike the traditional WLAN, MANET needs no fixed infrastructure, and it is much flexible as a result. MANET communicates in a multi-hop style, thus makes it possible for nodes far away from each other to keep in touch with the forwarding of intermediate nodes. To support this forwarding, every node in MANET must have the function of routing. The thesis makes an in-depth study of MANET and its routing protocols, and proposes some improvements on DSDV routing solution. It can reduce maintenance costs and decrease the number of packets needed to send when the DSDV routing Protocol is running without any bad effect on routing discovery and routing management. As a result, we can increase effective data transfer rate and bandwidth and effective rate of utilization. According to the principle of locality, the principle of giving priority to the changed routing information, the principle of maximum of routing information, we can choose the routing information which must be broadcasted right now and skip some information temporarily. Therefore, we can gain our ends.A mobile ad hoc network(MANET) consists of wireless hosts that may move often. Movement of hosts results in a change in routes, requiring some mechanism for determining new routes. Several routing protocols have already been proposed for MANET networks. Those protocols, based on IP and cost much, affect its stability, extendibility and bandwidth. This paper suggests an approach to modify IEEE 802.11 protocol to enable hosts to forward packets with the help of the Improved RTS/CTS information instead of routing protocols, named An Efficient Packet Forwarding Strategy Based on the Improved RTS/CTS For MANET.In order to exploit all the advantages that the wireless medium offers, in this paper we propose a combined cross-layer protocol for routing and multiple access (MAC). Our new integrated protocol allows the routing protocol to use the routing information based on the Improved RTS/CTS in MAC.
