With the developments of the modern navigation, the communication, the electric power and especially the application in military field, to get a normative and unitive time which so-called time information transmission became more and more important. The precision of time service has reached a sub-microsecond, nanosecond even a sub-nanosecond level from a millisecond or a microsecond level.In the beginning of the paper, we expound the significance of the time service system's high performance. The paper has sorted the existing time service system in the free space after studying deeply. We give the necessity and the advantages of the time service based-on optical network. The paper gives a detailed report about the time service schemes based-on optical fiber that has reported and describes three ways that to accomplish long distance time information transmission with optical fiber links.The paper gives a study of the key technology about the time information transmission based on optical fiber. A method to estimate the single transmission delay in the accurate optical fiber time information transmission system based on the round trip transmission delay and wavelengths is proposed. The simulation shows that almost 1.000 nanoseconds error will be reduced by using this method when the wavelengths are 1310ns and 1550ns in the outgoing and incoming links.With the transmitter and the receiver of the optical link and the whole optical system a demo optical fiber time information transmission system is shown.
