With the rapid development of information technology and the increasing popularity of office automation system, Government departments need to build a proprietary network, which achieves the electronic office and centralized management. The proprietary network of electronic government based on ATM network is specifically designed for government agencies. It's called the e-government network. In just three years time, the number of e-government network reached eleven, with more than a thousand circuits.Faced by such large and important user groups, the maintenance of e-government network was increasingly difficult, mainly in customer's demand for improved quality of service, the old and the loss of network equipments, maintenance workload increased and so on. Therefore, it was proposed network's optimization. The paper, focusing on the current situation of e-government network, formulated some network's optimization projects with considering characteristics of the LAN, ATM network, SDH network, etc. They mentioned that it was improved network performance and stability by packet filtering and flow control technology, it was used Ping for diagnosing faults to simplify testing methods and reduce troubleshooting time, and it was used APS technology to increase protection against serious network faults.It took three months to implement and test the optimization schemes. So the e-government network was fully optimized about prevention and troubleshooting, and the overall performance had been greatly enhanced. It prevented the virus attack because the security level of user's LAN was improved. It improved network stability and troubleshooting capability with enhancing performance of network equipment. It met the large flow of customers'business with expanding the line bandwidth. It enhanced capacity to respond to emergencies because of double routing access to the centre.Through a month's achievements statistics after optimization, network fault declined obviously, customer satisfaction greatly improved, and company benefits increased. This optimization was praised by customers, colleagues and company.
