The success of the third generation communication technology's operation and the upcoming fourth-generation communication technology are great to meet people for the increasing Internet data and media needs. The new communication technology is the Integration of the Internet, audio and video and more features. In order to meet the requirements of the new technology, the communication transceiver system must include more features, such as multi-band, better reliability and higher data transmission speed. Power Amplifier (PA) accounts the most of the RF transceiver's power; its performance determines the overall system performance. The new communication technology requires the PA can work in multi-band and have high linearity. The paper firstly introduces the RF power amplifier in three parts. The first part is performance parameters of PA, such as the output power, drain efficiency, power added efficiency, power gain, etc. The second part is the classification of RF power amplifiers and amplifier performance of each class of comparison. The third part introduces a number of linear methods, such as feed-forward method, power back law, and mainly about digital baseband predistortion. Then focus on the design of multi-band RF power amplifier used digital feedback and distortion, mainly about the configurable multi-band matching network and multi-band digital pre-distortion design. The paper final design a multi-band RF power amplifier which can choose the corresponding band though the digital pre-distortion module. The digital parts of the design are described by Verilog and then do functional simulation using Modelsim6.0. Finally, establish behavioral model and RTL net list using QuartusII. In the multi-band RF power amplifier part, the circuit was designed in Smic 0.18μm RF CMOS technology and simulated by Cadence Specter RF. The simulation results indicated that the multi-band PA can choose the needed band though the digital pre-distortion module. Also the multi-band PA itself has good performances and good match.
