As China's growing highway mileage, the traffic is rising, and the number of overweight vehicles is increasing, coupled with the unreasonable construction of highway, the majority of highway occurrence of early disease. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a new type of non-destructive testing equipment, which it is widely used in highway pavement disease detection, because it has many advantages, such as high speed, efficiency, precision, resolution and so on. Conventional GPR data processing is based on expertise, due to large volumes of data, manual testing is not only inefficient, but also the subjectivity of experts will bring great errors. This issue through the relevant algorithms for automatic detection technology not only fast, efficient, and the error is small;saves manpower, material resources, reducing test cost, to adapt to the rapid development of China's highway needs. The main research topics are as follows:1,Studied the principle of the GPR,the components of its hardware and used the GPR equipment to estimate the highway pavement subsurface thickness.2,Studied the three kinds of automatic detection algorithms:envelope detection, matched filter and MUSIC method. Application of FDTD method to establish model of asphalt pavement, first of all at different SNR conditions, by calculating the mean square error of delay, comparative MUSIC method was found superior to the threshold method and matched filter methods; Secondly, in the detection of ultra-thin layer of road surface,MUSIC method can accurately detect the echoes superimposed layer interface; Finally, ultra-thin layer of conventional highways and expressways measured data detection, MUSIC method get better results.
