In recent years, the media streaming over the Internet has developed rapidly. The streaming service model based on the traditional C/S excessive relies on the media server's performance and bandwidth, so it can't support on the large scale of the concurrent distribution. The CDN and IP multicast technology can't be widely used either because of the expensive cost of its deployment and expansion. In order to solve the problem of the distribution of media streaming over the Internet, the media streaming based on P2P network is proposed, which is to move the multicast from the network layer to the application layer.First of all, this paper analyzes and compares four kinds of P2P overlay network and the existing distribution model of P2P based live media streaming, points out the problem and shortage of the existing solutions. Then a new distribution model GTStream is presented, which is composed by a three-tier structure:media source server, super-peer and ordinary peer. And its main characteristics include the following parts:(1) reducing the pressure of media source server through the management of the ordinary peers by super-peer; (2) effective reducing the delay between peers through the regional division of peers; (3) peers can obtain effective partners to exchange data by using the best partner generating algorithm; (4) improving the efficiency of data exchange between peers by using an adaptive data scheduling algorithm. Finally, the GTStream model is analyzed through experiments and is used in video surveillance system.
