The essential purpose of English learning is to communicate. Communication lies, first of all, in listening. So listening is the most important in all the four cardinal language skills. Recently, more and more English teachers have begun to focus on the development of the ability of students'listening and have made a lot of research work.Listening comprehension is considered as the process where the listeners can construct the meaning of listening materials actively and creatively. There are a lot of facts influencing the ability of listening, such as language knowledge, cultural differences, characters, intelligence, psychological factors etc. But of all the facts, listening strategies are the most important. Nowadays, there isn't much research about it in the academic circle because of a variety of reasons.Based on the strategy theories of some famous scholars, for example, O'Malley& Chamot,Oxford,Qiufang Wen and Xiaotang Chen, the author made a lot of research on the teaching examples and a series of experiments. Combining the theories and practice, the author made an all-round research in the listening strategies applied in high school systematically. Conclusively, the author came up with the C-MC-A listening model: C stands for cognitive listening strategies, MC stands for meta-cognitive listening strategies, and A stands for affective listening strategies. The C-MC-A listening model is comparatively steady, but its contents are different for different students because of their different learning styles. Therefore, the essay focuses on the following problems: What do the listening strategies contain? How to train the high school students to develop their listening by applying the strategies? Dos the listening strategy training work ? etc.The final research data tell us that the C-MC-A listening model better advances the students in developing their listening and the model is worth practicing. At the mean time, the author hopes the students can apply these strategies to all the other fields of learning.
