Research On The Influence Of Wind Oscillation To Upwind Sailing Route Selection

Sailing on the sea is a complex course, the sailboat is always influenced by the wave, current, wind, and so on. Sailboat racing is a sport which requires the best velocity in a giving voyage. So how to determine the sailing route or direction that based on the instant weather information is an important factor. In fact the wave and the current will change not so much as the wind does in a shot period. Sailing is a sport on water, the angle between wind direction and the sail as well as the wind direction and the wind speed will always change, especially the wind direction. Not only the forward direction of sailboat is influenced by it, but also determine the velocity to the mark or windward. Thus the selection of optimal sailing route is influenced by it.The goal of analyze and reply these complex factor is to improve sailing performance as well as the athletes'scores.So it becomes a valuable research.With the development of the technology of remote sensing and computer science, many scholars commit themselves to the research of sailing. They emphasize particularly on sailing mechanics, route selection and the factors that influence the sailing. But there are not so much research on the wind oscillation. The sailing in our country appeared so late that the research on sailing is rarely, only a few articles were written. In fact this is a new research field.Based on the above reasons, this article analyzed the mechanics of sailboat, the power source and the relationship between the boat speed and all kinds of wind, then introduce the resistance of sailboat simply. Discussed the change in wind direction and the optimal sailing route selection as a result.This article analyzed the function of VMC polar chart and VMG polar chart. Also analyzed the influence of the wind oscillation to the sailing direction combined with the mechnics. Consequently the athletes know the principles of the influence of wind oscillation.Nailed down how to select the sailing coursr and direction when where is a wind oscillation.This article clarified the main innovations. The conclusions and directions for future research work are discussed in the last chapter of this paper.
