AIM:In order to explore the changing rule of plasma thyroid hormones in patients with coronary heart disease with the Heart-Qi Dificiency Syndrome (HQDS) and clinical significance of the changes, we measured the level of thyroid hormones and catecholamine in patients with coronary heart disease with HQDS. We also studied the relationship between the level of thyroid hormones and the cardiac function.METHODS:(1) Plasma thyroid hormones level of patients with HQDS were measured with radioimmunoassy and were compared with that of N-HQDS group as well as normal control group. (2) To study the relationship between hormones level and cardiac function, we compared the thyroid hormones level of vary grades of cardiac function. (3) Plasma catecholamine (CA) level of patients with coronary heart disease with HQDS was measured in plasma.RESULTS:(1) T3 was significantly lower in patients with coronary heart disease with HQDS in comparison with N-HQDS group and normal group (p<0.05), while rT3 was significantly higher (p<0.05), while T4 was slightly lower without significance. There were no significant difference between N-HQDS group and normal control group (2) Along with the aggravation of HQDS, plasma level of T3 and T4 progressively decreased(P<0.01), while rT3 progressively increased(P<0.01). Plasma TSH is not related to the severity of HQDS (P>0.05). (3) Plasma nor epinephrine (NE) and epinephrine (E) were significantly higher in patients with coronary heart disease with HQDS in comparison with N-HQDS group and normal group (p<0.05).CONCLUSION: (1) Plasma thyroid hormones changes exist in patients with coronary heart disease with HQDS. (2) The extent of plasma thyroid hormones changing are associated with cardiac function. (3) Plasma catecholamine changes in patients with coronary heart disease with HQDS. The thyroid hormones and the catecholamine were associated with each other in patients with coronary heart disease with HQDS.
