The Study On Category Of Therapeutic Self-care In Diabetes Patients

Objective:Diabetes mellitus belongs to a chronic and lifelong disease. It influences the people's living quality seriously. It is important to diabetes patients that self-care can effectively control the development of disease, prevent and decrease the complications, and raise the living standards of patients. Through the questionnaires about the therapeutic self-care requirements by patients, the therapeutic self-care situations of the nursing staffs and the preliminary definition of the therapeutic self-care category, the protocol focuses on providing the theoretic instructions to nursing staffs in order to make them help diabetes patients care themselves appropriately.Methods:The patients and nurses were selected convenient and stratified sampling in the first, second and third Affiliated Hospitals of Shihezi University, the Military Region Hospital in Wulumuqi, the Kelamayi Staff Hospital and the Dushanzi Staff Hospital to enquire the therapeutic self-care demands of the daibetes patients and the therapeutic self-care situation in nurses, analyze the problems and influence factors, compare the matching level between the daibetes patient's therapeutic self-care demands and the enforcement of therapeutic self-care by nurses. The research methods included observation, open interviews and close questionnaires. The data were analyzed by SPSS 11.5 statistical soft wares.Results:The diabetes patients needed to be compensated the knowledge of this disease. Their mental responses and self-apperceives of living quality are negative. It is necessary to intensify the diabetes patient's self-care consciousness and their self-care behaviors were insufficient. On the other hand, nurse's self-care knowledge and therapeutic self-care measurements were also not sufficient, and their therapeutic self-care actions could not match the demands of diabetes patients to the therapeutic self-care showed in twenty-three items.Conclusion:The purpose of therapeutic self-care is to promote effectively the patient's self-care. In the clinic practice, it is essential to use the Orem's self-care theory and the methods of nursing processes, pay much attention to the assessment of the patient's self-care requirements and ability, and to implement the therapeutic self-care based on this. At the same time, nurse's therapeutic self-care ability should be taken into account and some training measurements to nurses should be adopted. The category of patient's therapeutic self-care should include the contents of health education and psychological and social adaptation.Based on these therapeutic self-care needs of patient,nurse make the individual plan of therapeutic self-care.It may be promoting the diabetes patient's self-care effectively. Health education should be importance, but it is clear that health education is only one of the methods in nurse's therapeutic self-care.
