There are extensive free radical formation systems in the organism. A quantity of free radicals participates in biological oxidation, hormone synthesis, transmission of nervous excitation and body defense in the body.In the normal conditions, the production and elimination of in vivo free radicals maintain dynamic balance. During the perioperative period, as a result of surgical stress, high-concentration oxygen for a long time, shortage of antioxidant supplement and ischemia reperfusion injury, the production of free radicals surpasses the ability of eliminating them by the organism, which will cause the disorder of cell structure, metabolism and function, finally lead to the cell death. The active site of the main antioxidant of superoxide dismutase (SOD), a metal proteinase, is paramagnetic. The intramolecular unpaired electron of nitrogen monoxide (NO), popular gaseous free radical with dual natures, also displays weak paramagnetism. Under the function of magnetic field, the activity and concentration of paramagnetic SOD and NO is somewhat enhanced, which has been proved in the animal experiment. And the emergence of magnetic resonance in the open surgery provides the conditions for us to study the changes of serum free radicals in the body in the magnetic field environment during the perioperative period.Contents1 The first part was to study the effect of magnetic field on serum activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD), content of malon—dialdehyde(MDA)and content of nitric oxide(NO)in the patient undergoing operation for Pituitary Tumor. Sixteen ASA I orⅡundergoing Pituitary Tumor surgery under general anesthesia were randomly into 2 groups(n=8 each):magnetic field group (M) and control group (C). Magnetic field group was exposed in the 150 mT magnetic field in the operation period.Blood samples were taken from radial artery for determination of serum SOD,MAD and NO before induction of anesthesia (T0,baseline),after induction (Ti),70 min after induction(exposed in magnetic field 60 min) (T2) and 130 min after induction(exposed in magnetic field 120 min) (T3)2 The second part was to study the effect of Propofol, Sevoflurane and Sevoflurane combined Magnetic Field on Serum on the activity of supemxide dismutase(SOD), and the content of malon—dialdehyde(MDA)and nitric oxide(NO)in the operation for Pituitary Tumor. Twenty-four ASA I or II undergoing Pituitary Tumor surgery under general anesthesia were randomly into 3 groups (n=8 each):propofol group(P),sevoflurane group(S)and sevoflurane combined magnetic field group(SM).Intravenous propofol (control plasma concentration 5 ug/ml)in P group, inhaled 3% sevoflurane in S group and inhaled 3% sevoflurane meanwhile exposed in the 150mT magnetic field in SM group for anesthetic maintenance. Blood samples were taken from radial artery for determination of serum SOD,MAD and NO before induction of anesthesia (To,baseline),after induction (T1),70min after induction(exposed in magnetic field 60min) (T2)and 130min after induction(exposed in magnetic field 120min) (T3)Results1 During the first experiment, the serum activity of SOD and content of NO were significantly higher at T3 in group M than that in group C,and the serum content of MDA was lower at T3 in group M than that in group C.2 During the second experiment, the serum activity of SOD, content of MDA and content of NO were significantly difference at T2 in group P than that in group S and group SM.The serum activity of SOD and content of MDA were significantly difference at T3 in group P and group SM than that in group S,meanwhile content of NO was much higher in group SM than that in group S and group P.Conclusions1 The magnetic field can not only increase serum SOD activity and the content of NO in patient undergoing operation for Pituitary Tumor, but also reduce the content of MDA in them.2 Propofol has much more effectly to reduce free radical than Sevoflurane and Sevoflurane combined Magnetic Field.
